Budget Inside the park County-run (Narok)

Oloololo is the biggest of the three public campsites in the Mara Triangle, the part of the reserve west of the Mara River that the Mara Conservancy runs for Narok County. It sits at Oloololo Gate and is the only public site with hot showers, toilets including an accessible one, and a kitchen shelter, though you bring every pot and pan. Camping costs $40 per non-resident adult a night on top of the $100 or $200 entry, so a night here in August costs $240 a head before the vehicle fee. Choose it if you drive yourself and want the cheapest legal night inside the reserve; skip it if you want anyone else to cook.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • The cheapest night inside the reserve: $140 in January to June, $240 from July
  • Hot showers, toilets including an accessible one, and a kitchen shelter
  • No booking fee and no maximum stay
  • Inside the Triangle, which most visitors rate as the quieter half of the reserve

Cons

  • Bring all your own gear: tents and cooking kit are not provided
  • Unfenced; lion and hyena move through the Triangle at night
  • No advance booking, so in July to October you take your chance
  • Cashless: card or M-Pesa only for Triangle fees

What the park charges on top

The rate above buys you a bed. Masai Mara National Reserve charges its own entry fee for every day you are inside. Here is what that adds up to.

Park entryThe non-resident rate from 1 July to 31 December; $100 from 1 January to 30 June.
$200per person, per day
VehicleKSh 1,000 a day for a car under six seats, about $8 at KSh 129 to the dollar.
$8per vehicle, per day

Three nights means three days inside, so two adults sharing one vehicle pay $1224 in park fees before anyone pays for a bed.

The figure above uses the July to December rate. From January to June the same sum halves for the people. A day is 06:00 to 18:00, and guests in the conservancies outside the reserve pay only on the days they drive in.

Rates at Oloololo Public Campsite

From $40 pppn. Camping is $40 per non-resident adult per night, $20 for a child of 9 to 17, free at 8 and under, under the Narok County Finance Act 2023 and the Mara Conservancy's own camping table (both read 6 Oct 2026). Entry is on top: $100 per non-resident adult per 12-hour day (6 am to 6 pm) from January to June and $200 from July to December, plus KSh 1,000 a day for a vehicle under six seats. Public sites carry no booking fee. Triangle fees are cashless: card or M-Pesa only. No VAT is shown on the county tariff.

Self-catering. You cook. Nothing else is included unless the entry says so.

Every figure on this page is in US dollars.

Rates checked on 6 October 2026 against each operator's own website or 2026 rate sheet, in US dollars per person per night sharing unless the entry says otherwise. One figure is a reseller's, not the owner's: Olonana Lodge's $2,450 (safari.com, 6 Oct 2026), because A&K's own page would not load. Angama's rates come from a January 2026 copy of its site, since the live site blocks automated reading. On top of nearly every rate sits Narok County's reserve ticket: $100 per non-resident adult per 12-hour day (6 am to 6 pm) from January to June and $200 from July to December, $50 for a child of 9 to 17, free at 8 and under. Conservancy camps add their own nightly fee, $130 per adult in Mara North, Olare Motorogi and Naboisho in 2026 and $116 in Mara Siana, unless the entry says it is included.

Questions about Oloololo Public Campsite

How much does it cost to camp at Oloololo in the Masai Mara?

Camping is $40 per non-resident adult per night and $20 for a child of 9 to 17 under the Narok County Finance Act 2023, which the Mara Conservancy's table repeats. The $100 (January to June) or $200 (July to December) entry ticket is on top, as is KSh 1,000 a day for a car under six seats.

Can you book Oloololo Public Campsite in advance?

No. The Mara Conservancy says its public campsites are available on a first come, first served basis, and the booking system at marabookings.co.ke lists them without a booking fee. Only the private and special campsites are reserved ahead.

Is Oloololo Campsite suitable for children?

We found no published child policy. Children of 8 and under camp free and pay no entry, and 9 to 17 pay $20 camping plus $50 entry. The site is unfenced, so keep children in the tent after dark.
