Month by month

Masai Mara in February

February is the Mara at its emptiest outside the rains. The migrating herds are in Tanzania, the park fee is at its low-season rate and the roads are usually passable, which leaves the resident cats and plains game to the few vehicles that come.

If you only want the answer

February is a good-value month in the Masai Mara: 28.3°C days, 15.1°C nights and about 62 mm of rain in the model, with the $100 low-season park fee and mid-season lodge rates. It is not reliably dry: more than 200 mm fell in the Triangle in February 2026. Expect resident game and few vehicles, with 6,087 non-resident visitors entering the Triangle that month.

Masai Mara weather in February: dry on paper, not always on the ground

The model puts February at 28.3°C by day, 15.1°C at night and about 62 mm of rain on 9 days. Like every monthly rain figure on this site, that number is approximate: the gauges in the Mara record about a third more rain than the model.

February 2026 is the warning. The Mara Conservancy recorded more than 200 mm of rain in the Triangle that month alone, and the 2018 gauge study counts February as part of the long wet season that runs from November to June. Pack a rain jacket and leave slack in your plans.

Quiet roads and resident predators

February is one of the quietest months in the Triangle. The Mara Conservancy counted 6,087 non-resident adults in February 2026, up from 4,937 in February 2025, against 16,718 in August 2025. Fewer vehicles at a sighting is the main reason to come now.

The animals are the residents: lions, cheetah, elephant, buffalo, giraffe and the resident wildebeest on the eastern plains. With no migration to follow, guides spend the day on the cats.

The last month of Kicheche's mid season

Kicheche Mara North's mid-season rate of $730 per person runs from 3 January to 28 February 2026, before it drops to the regular $625 in March. Governors' Camp charges $623 per person throughout January to March, and the park fee stays at $100 per non-resident adult per day.

Conservancy camps add their own fee: $130 per adult per night in Mara North, Olare Motorogi and Naboisho in 2026, according to Kicheche's rate sheet.
