Month by month
Masai Mara in June
June is the month to come if you want dry weather without the peak. The rains have stopped, camps have reopened, the park fee is still at its low-season rate, and in some years the first wildebeest reach the Triangle before the month is out.
If you only want the answer
June is prime time at the right price in the Masai Mara: 25.9°C days, 14.6°C nights and about 18 mm of rain in the model. The park fee stays at $100 per day until 30 June before doubling, lodge rates are mid season, and in 2026 the first herds reached the Triangle at the end of the month. It is no longer quiet: the Triangle counted 8,076 non-residents in June 2025.
Masai Mara weather in June: the dry season starts
The model puts June at 25.9°C by day, 14.6°C at night and about 18 mm of rain over 5 days. The figure is approximate; the gauges record more rain than the model, and the 2018 gauge study still counts June as part of the Mara's wet season.
June 2026 went the other way. The Mara Conservancy wrote that it had to rank as the driest month it had had in 25 years.
The first herds, in some years
In 2026 the first wildebeest were seen in the Triangle at the end of June, and the Conservancy ended the month with a few thousand animals. In 2025 they arrived later, on 6 July at Sand River, so a June trip is a bet on an early year.
The grass is drying, the residents are easy to see, and June 2024 was the month the government chose for its aerial census of the Mara, flown from 19 to 25 June before the migrants came.
Busier than you think, cheaper than July
June is not quiet any more. The Triangle counted 8,076 non-resident visitors in June 2025, up from 6,233 a year earlier, and the Conservancy described that June as exceptionally busy, with over 200 vehicles at one sighting.
The money still favours June. The park fee is $100 per non-resident adult per day until 30 June and $200 from 1 July. Governors' Camp charges $623 per person in June against $998 from July, and Kicheche Mara North $625 against $995. Kicheche Valley reopens on 1 June, Rekero reopens for the season, and Wilderness Mara, the rebuilt Little Governors' Camp, reopened in June 2026. Safarilink's high season starts on 16 June.
